February Birthstone Spotlight: Amethyst
Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for the month of February. Amethyst is also given to celebrate the sixth wedding anniversary. Ancient Greeks believed the gemstone to strengthen relationships and give its wearer courage, personal empowerment and inner strength.
Ancient Greeks thought that the amethyst guarded against intoxication due in fact that, “amethyst” comes from amethystos, a Greek word meaning “sober.”
Its lilac to deep purple hues were much desired by royalty and amethysts can be found in the collections of royal families throughout Europe and Asia.
